So I was just playing around in PSP8 and I thought this colorization was cool, so yeahh.

Crop the image and all that jazz

Make a new layer, fill with the color white and set to Soft Light at 100%.

Make another layer, fill that with the color black and set to Soft Light at 44%.

Make another layer, fill with #9F3A5A and set to Lighten at 100%.

Duplicate the base, drag it to the top and set to Soft Light at 100%.

Merge.

Layer>>New Adjustment Layer>>Curves

RGB
Red
Green
Blue

Set it to Soft Light at 100%

Merge.

Adjust>>Hue and Saturation>>Auto Saturation Enhancement

Select More Colorful, Strong, Skintones Present

Adjust>>Brightness and Contrast>>Auto Contrast Enhancement

Select Darker, Mild and Bold.

Voila!

Note: This doesn't work with all icons. It works preferably with dark backgrounds.

Okay, so there may be other ways to do this coloring (?) But this way is sure easy (=

Tutorial for PSP8 but it translates

Resize and crop the image you are going to use or you can just use this:

Sharpen

Make a new layer, fill with the color #FCA204 and set to Multiply at 32%.

Make another new layer, fill with the color #043FAC and set to Exclusion at 28%.

Now here comes the part I know everyone loves.

Layer>>New Adjustment Layer>>Curves

Now it should look somewhat like this:

Duplicate the base and drag it to the top. Set the duplicated base to Soft Light at 100%.

Voila! You're done.
